Your plans, kept private

Vine of Cana is built so that your wedding plans stay with you. This page explains, in plain words, what stays on your own devices, the little that reaches us, and what other companies are involved.

The short version

What you should know

01

Who we are

Vine of Cana is a small Australian family business that makes wedding planning tools. It is run as a family partnership, ABN 25 594 050 633, trading under the registered business name Vine of Cana. "We" and "us" on this page mean Vine of Cana.

For anything about your information, including questions, corrections or a request to delete something, email vineofcana@gmail.com. You'll hear back from Hannah, who runs Vine of Cana, usually within a few days and always within 30 days.

02

This website and the waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address, the date you joined, and any interests you tick (for example "Budget" or "Seating"). We use them for one thing only: to email you when Vine of Cana opens, and to know which tools people are waiting for. To come off the list, reply to any email from us or write to the address above.

To stop spam sign-ups, the site counts how many times each visitor tries to join in an hour. It does this with a scrambled stand-in for your internet address (a one-way hash), never the address itself, and clears the count after the hour.

No tracking. This site has no analytics, no advertising pixels and no tracking cookies. It remembers one small thing in your browser for the current visit only: that you've already seen the opening animation, so it doesn't play again.

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for them. Google sees the request as it would for any website using its fonts.

The live demo runs on a sample wedding. Nothing you do in it is saved, and a reload starts it fresh.

03

Buying on Etsy

Vine of Cana is sold through Etsy. Etsy takes your payment, and we never see your card or bank details. Etsy shares with us what any Etsy seller receives for an order, such as your name, your Etsy username, what you bought and any message you send. We use these only to deliver your purchase (including your unlock code), answer your questions and send free updates to the planner you bought.

Etsy's own handling of your information is covered by Etsy's privacy policy.

04

The planner on your device

Everything you put into the planner is saved inside your own web browser on your own device: guests and their details, budgets, vendors, notes, photos, files and designs. It isn't sent to us, and we have no copy. Export saves a backup file to wherever you choose. That file is yours to keep, move or delete.

Because your plan lives in your browser, clearing your browser's website data (or using a "forget this site" or private-browsing feature) can delete it. Keep an exported backup.

When the planner talks to other services

A few features need to look something up online. They run only when you use them, and they send only what's needed for that lookup:

ServiceWhat it's forWhat it receives
Open-MeteoThe weather forecast for your venue and wedding dayThe place's map position and the dates
OpenStreetMapFinding an address on the mapThe address you're looking up
Google FontsThe planner's typefacesA request for the font files
cdnjs (Cloudflare)A few of the planner's built-in tools, such as chartsA request for the tool's files
YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify, SoundCloudPlaying a video or song you've added to your planWhatever that service collects when its player is shown

Links you click, such as Google Maps directions or a vendor's website, open those sites in a new tab, under their own privacy policies.

05

The online planner

The planner can also be opened at app.vineofcana.com.au, for phones and tablets. You type your order's unlock code once on each device. Your plan is still saved on that device only, exactly as above.

To keep the planner for buyers only, we store:

We don't store your name, email or plan on the server.

06

Google Drive sync

Drive sync is optional. It lets you and your partner plan together and keeps your plan on all your devices. It works through your own Google Drive, and Vine of Cana's servers are never in between.

What the planner can access

What it does with that access

Your plan file is shared only with the people you invite. Anyone you invite can change the plan, as with a shared Google Doc.

Vine of Cana's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't use Google user data for advertising, we don't sell it, and no person at Vine of Cana reads it.

To stop syncing, tap Stop syncing on this device in the planner's Settings. To remove the planner's access completely, go to your Google Account → Security → Third-party apps & services → Vine of Cana → Delete all connections. Your plan file stays in your Drive until you delete it.

07

Read-only share links

From the online planner you can make a read-only link to chosen sections of your plan, for a venue, planner or vendor. The page is locked (encrypted) on your device before upload, and the key is kept only in the link itself, in the part browsers never send to a server. Our server holds the locked file plus its dates. It can't read the contents, a title or which sections are in it.

Anyone you give the link to can view those sections. You choose how long a link lasts and can switch it off at any time. A switched-off or expired link is deleted straight away.

08

Wedding websites and RSVPs

If you publish your wedding website from the planner, it's locked with a password you choose before it leaves your device, and our server stores only the locked copy. Guests unlock it with the password or the QR code on your invitations. The site is hidden from search engines.

For guests: when you reply to an RSVP, your answers (such as who's coming and any dietary needs) go to the couple's own Google Sheet, not to Vine of Cana. The couple decides how long to keep them. For anything about your reply, contact the couple.

09

Other companies involved

Some of these companies store information outside Australia, including in the United States. We choose services with strong security, and keep what they hold to the minimum. Your plan, which is the part that matters most, is either kept only on your devices or locked before it leaves them.

We never sell, rent or trade your information. We would share it with authorities only if Australian law required us to.

10

How long we keep things

11

Your choices and rights

You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to vineofcana@gmail.com. Most of what matters is already in your hands: your plan is on your device and in your own Drive, and you can delete it there whenever you like.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

12

Changes to this page

If what we collect or how we use it changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters to people on the waitlist or existing buyers, we'll let you know directly.
